Ember, The Trick Is To Be Choosy About Who Become Friends With

Hi Ember, most people consider me anti-social. I'm not. Though, I am particular about my company. This morning two of my new neighbours, and hopefully friends, came over for a visit.

And who might you be?

I had just fed the geese and fish. Next on the chores list was to clean and fill up their water container. As I put it into the pond to rinse it, I noticed something in the pond that wasn't usually there. I slowly put the water container down and scanned the water. 

There it was again. I watched as it sank and then surfaced and spun towards me. Suddenly, a head popped out, and I realized that there was a baby turtle checking me out and carefully swimming towards me. I watched and waited. Then I saw a second baby turtle slowly heading my way.

 The first baby box turtle was now about a foot away, She had stopped swimming and with only her head above water was checking me out. Ever so slowly, I lowered my hand into the water and gently lifted her up. This did not amuse her, so I quickly and gently put her back into the water, and she dove for the bottom. 

Turtle number two now approached. Once again, I let the baby turtle approach. When I started to put my hand in the water, he spun around and swam away.

I do believe that I’ll be sprinkling a little floating fish food in the shallow end of the goose pond for the turtles. I will definitely be enjoying the company of my new neighbours.
